Top team, individual GPAs honored for women's water polo

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. – The Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches announced its annual women's water polo All-Academic awards with Chapman University ranked 15th in the nation in team GPA and 11 individuals garnering recognition.

Chapman moved up three spots from 18th last year to 15th this year with a 3.42 team GPA. That ranking is among all collegiate water polo teams across every division of the NCAA.

Sophomore Honorable Mention All-American Audrey Hattori was one of four Panthers to earn the highest academic recognition in the Outstanding category. Charlene Ma, Lauren Jufiar and Roisin Cunningham Smythe joined Hattori with the highest honor going to those student-athletes with at least a 3.71 GPA.

The ACWPC also recognizes two more individual teams for academic success. Joanna Spyrou and Kylie Beloian were honored in the Superior category with GPAs between a 3.41 and 3.70. Five Panthers landed in the Excellent category with GPAs between a 3.20-3.40: Mia Chanove, Argelia Diaz, Paige Gurich, Alyssa Welfringer and Emily Whitney.

The All-Academic team award marks the eighth year in a row that head coach Eric Ploessel's squad has earned the distinction and the 14th time in his 16 years at the helm of the program.
