Panthers drop final weekend contest

ORANGE, Calif — The Chapman Panthers dropped Sunday's matinee 15-9 to the Whittier Poets on Mar. 13.

Despite trailing nine entering the fourth quarter, Chapman's offense came alive and put up a strong fight in the final frame.

In just a 1:48 span, the Panthers rattled off four consecutive goals, two from Jamie Chin, one from Julia Bridges and another from Saturday's star, Ally Long. And what was a daunting deficit narrowed to just five.

Early on the Panthers kept the game close. The score was notched at 3-2 in favor of the Poets for the majority of the first period. Whittier, however, pulled away in the following quarter, ending the half up 8-4. Then just two minutes into the third quarter, expanding their lead to seven.

Chin, Morgan O'Connell, and Camille Chiang all finished the game with a pair of goals. Georgina Burton, who came into play goalie in the fourth, saved 67% of Whittier's shot attempts.

With the loss, Chapman falls to 8-10 on the season and 1-3 in SCIAC play. Whittier improves to 9-5 and 4-1.

Chapman will look to bounce back on Wednesday, Mar. 16 when they travel to Occidental to take on the Tigers.
