Women's water polo celebrates seniors with win over Oxy

ORANGE, Calif. – The seniors were honored and closed out their careers victoriously as the Chapman women's water polo team defeated visiting Occidental 14-8. Both teams were playing in their season finale.

Charlene Ma and Ally Long were honored before the match and both played big roles in the winning effort. Long scored four times with four more assists to go along with five steals. She ran her season assist total to 53 – the fourth-most for a single season in Chapman history. Ma scored twice to help the Panthers pull away late.

The Panthers scored on their first possession when Kasey Markell found the net with a back handed shot just 25 seconds in. The Panthers led the rest of the way with a boost of five goals from Grace Stuart. Stuart made it 2-0 Chapman just three minutes into the match and the Panthers led 2-1 at the end of the first.

The lead quickly grew to 4-1 and was 5-3 at halftime. The Panthers outscored the Tigers in all four quarters as they pulled away for the season-ending win. After three quarters, it was still a close, low-scoring match as Chapman led 7-4 but the scoreboard lit up in the fourth. Chapman netted seven goals and Oxy put in four.

Georgina Burton made six saves to pick up the win in the goal. Camille Chiang scored once but assisted on five more goals

Chapman ends the season on a hot streak, winning three of their last four, to get the most wins for the program since 2015. The Panthers finish the season 12-16 overall with a 5-9 record in the SCIAC.
