Several Panthers earn personal-bests at SCIAC Multi-Duals

LA MIRADA, Calif. - The Chapman University men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Seventh Annual Pomona-Pitzer Invitational, the women's team continued to show improvements with several Panthers marking personal bests.

On the women's side, six Panthers all ran season-best times on a tough course. The women finished the day 3-5 and sixth overall in conference.

Leading the way in the first league competition of the fall was junior Michiko Yee who navigated the course in 24:05.76. Less than two seconds behind was freshman Nika Cokas who finished with a mark of 24:11.69.

Freshman Sheridan Scifres completed the course with a personal best of 24:25.53.  Juniors Cathryne Ramirez and Izzy Howerton and freshman Alexis Cardenas and Olivia Palenscar completed the rolling hills course in just under 26 minutes.

On the men's side, senior Chris Reid continues to progress finishing the 8K with a mark of 26:53.79.

The biggest improvement of the day was freshman Gavin Gibson who shattered his personal record with a mark of 30:15.76

The team title went to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on the women's side and Pomona-Pitzer on the men's side each finishing the course with an unblemished 8-0 record on the day.

Chapman has two weeks to prepare for the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships. The meet will take place on Saturday, Oct. 31 at 9 a.m. at Pardo Park in Chino Hills, Calif.
