Reece caps historic season at NCAA Championships

WINNECONE, Wisc. – Freshman Arabella Reece capped a record-breaking season at the NCAA Division III Championships with a 148th-place finish. Reece broke two school records and was the first female student-athlete to qualify for the national championship race.

Reece finished the 6k championship race with a time of 22:54.1 to take 148th overall. She was the 16th freshman to cross the finish line.

"The race went out really hard this morning and it was an extremely aggressive field," noted head coach DeAndra'e Woods. "Needless to say Arabella competed great. Running at the national stage is tough enough. But, being from Southern California competing in 30-degree weather is not easy either and she step up to the challenge."

Reece made Chapman history all year long, setting the school records in the 5k and 6k cross country races. She became Chapman's first female All-SCIAC and All-Region performer in cross country in addition to her historic nationals qualification.

The championship race brings an end to the historic 2018 season for Reece and the Panthers. Chapman will be back out on the course in 2019 with hopes to see continued improvement after its first national qualifier and highest SCIAC team finish in school history.
