Hadzinsky named AD3I Student-Athlete of the Year for second time

ORANGE, Calif. – Chapman University's Tyler Hadzinsky has been named the Male Student-Athlete of the Year by the Association of Division III Independents for the 2010-11 academic year. This marks the second time Hadzinsky has been selected as Male Student-Athlete of the Year by the AD3I, last receiving the award in 2008-09.

This award for Hadzinsky caps off one of the more decorated careers for a two-sport athlete in recent Chapman history. The San Clemente, Calif. native was a three-year starting goalie for the men's soccer team and a three-year starter at second base for the baseball team.

As the Panthers starting goalie, Hadzinsky started 41 games and totaled 15 shutouts during his career, while leading the Panthers to 33 wins and an NCAA playoff appearance in 2009. For his efforts, he was named to the All-Independent soccer team three times and twice named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District VIII team. In addition he was named Defensive Player of the Year in 2010 and Goalkeeper of the Year in 2008 by the Association of Division III Independents.

This past spring, Hadzinsky led the baseball team in batting average (.331) and stolen bases (16) while being named to the ABCA All-West Region team for the first time in his career. For baseball, he was also a three-time All-Independent selection and a three-time selection to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District VIII team.

The Association of Division III Independents consists of 13 Division III independent institutions that have joined together to recognize student-athletes at independent institutions, and to provide exempted postseason championship competition in nine sports in 2010-11. The Association recognizes outstanding athletic achievements of its student-athletes on a weekly, monthly and annual basis. The Association provides statistical services for its member is seven sports.
