Baseball picks up second consecutive sweep

ORANGE, Calif. — Baseball picked up its second straight sweep and extended its winning streak to eight, winning both legs of Saturday's twin bill at Hart Park, 14-6 and 6-1.

Game 1 - 14-6, W

Brad Shimibuku led off the game with a ringing double to the left field wall, and the Panthers' offense never looked back, scoring 14 times, winning in convincing fashion.

Chapman tacked on a four spot in the eight, despite only collecting two hits in the inning. Oli Sellman drove in a run with a single, he had a great day going 6-for-9 on the afternoon, and a few walks and a passed ball notched the remaining scores.

After an Oxy two-run homer to cut the lead to two, Chapman fired off another four spot. AJ Anzai started things off with an RBI single, Sellman followed with another of his own and Austin Dudas tacked on two more with a clutch two-out, two-RBI base hit.

After another two-spot made the game 8-4, Trent Turquand iced it for the Panthers with a three-run bomb to left, his second of the season.

Wyatt Thompson started on the hill, allowing only three hits, but giving up three earned in the process, striking out six.

Game 2 - 6-1, W

Like it has been for a large portion of the season, game three was a Max Banks pitching clinic. He pitched seven innings allowing one run, unearned, striking out five. He also allowed only four hits. Today's start marks his fifth quality start of the year — pitching at least five innings allowing three runs or less.

Offensively the Panthers put up a four spot in the first again. After Cole Minato got hit by a pitch, AJ Anzai singled, making way for a two-run Kai Osaka double.

Osaka would come around to score on a Sellman double, then Sellman, too, would score on a Dudas single.

The offenses were held to a combined three runs from that point, but one being a Sellman moonshot well over the left field wall, his fourth of the season.

Chapman improved to 18-10 with the win and sits at 9-3 in SCIAC play. They'll return to Hart Park on Friday, April 14 to take on Caltech.
