Baseball routs Caltech in game one

ORANGE, Calif. — Baseball picked up its ninth consecutive win, this one to the tune of a 11-2 victory over Caltech on Friday, April 14 at Hart Park.

The Panthers were retired one-two-three in the bottom of the first, but quickly put up a five spot in the second.

After getting a runner to third with two outs, Austin Dudas hit a sacrifice fly to bring home the first run. Chapman fired off five straight hits, two doubles including one of the two-run variety from Ryan Nopper. Brad Shimibuku, Cole Minato and Aj Anzai all notched singles scoring two more.

That was all Grant Manning would need as he posted a solid seven innings of two-run ball with 11 strikeouts to earn his third win of the season.

The Panthers sent a couple of rockets over the wall in the victory. Oli Sellman hit his fifth of the season and Phillips knocked out his seventh bomb of the year, and 15th of his career.

Chapman will finish up its series against Caltech tomorrow in Pasadena when they'll play a double header at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
