Men's basketball falls to Sagehens in conference opener

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's basketball team fell 76-62 in a battle against Pomona-Pitzer College in the first conference game of the 2021-22 season. Senior Chandler White tallied 21 points off the bench for the Panthers leading both teams in scoring effort.  

The Panthers trailed the Sagehens early in the first half and were unable to take the lead until eight minutes in when White hit a shot from beyond the arc setting the score 16-14. White shot 7-10 from the field and hit 5-6 three pointers for Chapman.

The Panthers went into the half down 35-28 and were only able to put up six in the first seven minutes of the second. The Sagehens shot 48 percent from beyond the arc and 52 percent from the field.

Chapman decreased the Sagehen lead to single digits in an effort to come back in the second, White tallied ten points in less than two minutes with five left on the clock but Pomona-Pitzer answered each time securing the win.

Senior Alex Rogat secured seven rebounds on the night while Hayden Moore tallied 11 points and went 5-13 from the field. Brendan Mora led the scoring effort for the Sagehens and served up 20 points securing two threes and tallied 12 rebounds.

The Panthers hit the road with a 5-1 overall record and head to Cal Lutheran for the second SCIAC game of the season on Sat., Dec. 4. They return to Hutton to face La Sierra on Dec. 8 at 7 p.m.
