Men's basketball cruises to 111-52 win

ORANGE, Calif. – The outcome was never in doubt as the Chapman University men's basketball team cruised to a 111-52 win over visiting West Coast Baptist. Senior Ben Grant had the most assists in a game for a Chapman player since 1995 and two Panthers scored over 20 points.

Grant dropped 13 assists – the most since the school record of 24 was set in 1995 – to aid the Panthers in the blowout victory. His 13 assists are tied for the third-most in Chapman's 100-year basketball history, joining an elite group of just five Panthers to have 13 or more assists in a game.

Senior Hayden Moore continued to have the hot hand as he made three three-pointers in the first 92 seconds of the game to give Chapman an early 9-0 lead. He went on to make eight threes in the first half and finished the game with 29 points on 10-of-16 shooting, including another nine made three-pointers. He has made 19 three-pointers over the last two games and scored 59 points.

Senior Anthony Giomi was 10-of-11 from the floor and finished with 21 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore Andrew Ingalls scored 10 points off the bench. Senior Alex Rogat pulled down seven rebounds, blocked three shots, scored eight points, assisted on three baskets and came away with two steals.

After Moore put the Panthers up 9-0 to start the game, Chapman continued to push its lead, which was up to 31 points at halftime with a 58-27 advantage. Chapman shot 58 percent on the night while holding the West Coast Baptist to just 26.6 percent shooting. Job Sichting led the Eagles with 25 points.

The Panthers held West Coast Baptist to just seven points over the final 10 minutes of the first half as their lead ballooned from 11 points to 31. In the second half, Chapman shut down the Eagles again in the backend of the half. West Coast Baptist managed just six points in the final 11:31 as the lead surged to 50-plus points.

The Panthers enter finals week on campus with a three-game winning streak and an 8-1 overall record. They are back in action on Dec. 19 against SUNY Oneonta at 5 p.m.
