Men's basketball defeats Redlands, increases win streak to six

ORANGE, Calif. — The Chapman men's basketball team secured an 84-76 win at Hutton Sports Center on Saturday afternoon against the Redlands Bulldogs. In the back and forward match that included 18 ties and 26 lead changes, the Panthers offense was flowing as the team shot 55.6% from the three-point line and 51.1% from the field.

The Panthers were able to play one of the cleanest games of the year putting up 22 assists and only 10 turnovers. The win pushes the Panther's winning streak to six games, tying their streak from earlier this season when the team started the season 6-0.

Seniors Hayden Moore and Anthony Smith led Chapman offensively with a combined 49 points. Smith was able to get the scoring started early as he finished the first half with eleven points shooting a perfect 2-2 from three and 5-5 from the free-throw line. Even with Smith's strong half, the Panthers only led by one point at the half.

Both Smith and Moore continued to lead the team in the second half as Moore was able to get hot, shooting 4-4 from three and scoring 16 points to go along with Smith's 13 second-half points. The Bulldogs were still able to keep the game close keeping the game within two points with six minutes in the game.

The Panthers were able to secure the game with an 18-9 scoring run to put the game out of reach for the Bulldogs. Smith was able to finish the game with a season-high 24 points to go along with Moore's 25.

The Panthers will look to push their winning streak to a season high seven games at their matchup in Whittier on Monday and the Panthers return home on Feb. 9 at 7:00 p.m. for their matchup against Occidental.
