NSCAA names Sobol, Echeverry to All-West Region teams
ORANGE, Calif. – Two of the top scorers in Chapman University's soccer history have earned All-West Region honors from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). Senior M Val Sobol earned All-Region second team honors on the women's side, while senior F Nick Echeverry was also named to the men's second team. Each athlete has received the award twice in their careers.
Echeverry merited an All-Region selection after a season in which he scored more goals (14) than any Chapman player in the previous 12 seasons. The senior also led the Panthers with three assists (tied) and set a school record with seven game-winning goals. He earned a hat trick in a match against Caltech on Oct. 16 and finished his career tied for 10th on Chapman's career scoring list with 65 total points (27 goals, 11 assists). He last earned an All-Region selection in 2010.
For the second straight year, Sobol was named to the NSCAA's All-Region squad after once again leading the Panthers in goals (six) and total points (15) to climb to third on the school's all-time scoring list with 75 career points (31 goals, 13 assists). The senior added three assists in leading the Chapman women's team to the SCIAC Tournament for the second consecutive season.
The NSCAA administers an annual awards and recognition program which includes Coach of the Year, All-America, long-term service and special recognition awards designed to recognize excellence in soccer, academics and service to the game.
