Men's soccer returns to the pitch

The Chapman men's soccer team will return to Wilson Field for the first time since Oct. 2019 after an unprecedented 2020-21 season. All nine men's soccer teams return to the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) after a competition-lacking 2020 fall.

Six SCIAC teams are slated to set their 2021 seasons in motion on Wed.,Sep.1. The Panthers take the field with some key seniors returning from the 2019 season as well as an array of young talent. Three year starter Tobi Howe returns up top for the Panthers after playing in 16 games, scoring two goals and tallying two assists in 2019. Howe scored the overtime winner at nationally-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps for a 1-0 Chapman win.

Anchoring the backline for his third season in a row is Zack Matteoni. Matteoni made 12 starts and saw action in all 18 games in 2019 with six opposing team shutouts.

Goalkeeper Chandler Siemonsma returns to the pitch for his third season in Panther uniform. Siemonsma appeared and started in eight matches during 2019, he made 22 saves and allowed only five goals, notably making eight saves in a scoreless tie with UC Santa Cruz.

The team is peppered with young new talent to aid an already strong 2021 roster. The Panthers kickoff the 2021 season at Wilson Field on Wed., Sep. 1 at 4 p.m. against Redlands.
