Men's soccer defeats Whittier in fifth straight win

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman men's soccer team defeated Whittier 1-0 in their second matchup of the 2021 season. Senior defender Thomas Pierce scored the lone goal of the game, his first on the season.

The first half remained scoreless with Chapman leading in possession time and shots on goal. The panthers tallied a total of seven on target compared to the Poets three. Matthew Urata-Espinosa and Riley Thomas both secured two shots on goal in the game for Chapman.

The Chapman goal came early in the second half when Sebastian Hertel found Peirce from the right side, Pierce knocked it in to secure the final score of 1-0. Hertel was awarded the assist.

The Poets played down a man for over ten minutes in the second after losing Daniel Hayes to a red. Chandler Siemonsma tallied three saves on all three shots on goal from the Poets bringing his season total to 52.

The Panthers return to Wilson on Fri., Oct. 22 to face the UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs at 7 p.m.
