Men’s soccer falls to Stags, despite outstanding defensive effort

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Chapman men's soccer team fell in overtime to the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Stags in the SCIAC Tournament Semifinals despite leading 1-0 until the final 42 second of regulation.

The Panthers dominated the Stags early in the match, Garrett Lindfelt put Chapman on the board six minutes in when he tipped the ball in with the assist from Tobi Howe. This was the lone goal of the game for the Panthers.

The red card awarded to Paul Duke 15 minutes in cost the Panthers a man for the majority of regulation. A rocket from Grant Donaldson was a crucial save for Chandler Siemonsma, keeping the Panthers on top going into the half.

The Panthers lost another man early in the second when Treyden Buder-Nakasone earned his second yellow on the game putting pressure on the Chapman defense to keep them afloat for the remaining 35 minutes.

Despite playing down two, the Panther defense held the Stags until they tied the match with only 42 seconds remaining in regulation. Chase Keir snuck the ball into the goal off the corner from Lukas Huntington sending the teams into overtime.

The Stags secured the 2-1 game-winner with two minutes remaining in overtime when Tommy Brown found an opening. Siemonsa secured 12 saves on the 14 shots on goal for the Panthers in an outstanding effort.

Chapman finishes the season 7-5 in the conference and 8-9 overall after advancing to the SCIAC Semifinal round, the Panthers graduate five seniors but look forward to talent rising into next season.
