Siemonsma makes eight saves in scoreless draw with Cal Lutheran

ORANGE, Calif. – Chandler Siemonsma made eight saves to lead the Chapman University men's soccer team to a 0-0 draw against Cal Lutheran. The Kingsmen came into the match with a perfect 3-0 record but were unable to get anything past Siemonsma.

The Panthers moved to 2-1-2 in SCIAC play and 4-1-4 overall. The Kingsmen looked to be in control early on, outshooting the Panthers 9-5 in the first half but were called for being offside five times.

Chapman kept more possession in the second half and fired off six shots while holding Cal Lutheran to just three. All three were on target for Cal Lutheran but Siemonsma was equal to the task, stopping all three. Chapman put four of its five first-half shots on goal but Davis Sharts was perfectly positioned to make the save each time.

The Kingsmen nearly had a goal early in the match but the touch over the head of Siemonsma rolled outside the far post. Tobi Howe created a scoring opportunity early in the second half as he dribbled into some space at the top of the 18-yard box. His shot sailed wide right to keep the match scoreless.

Siemonsma's eight saves are a season-high for the senior and led him to his third shutout of the year.

The Panthers don't return to the pitch until next week when they travel to Pomona-Pitzer for a 4 p.m. match on Wednesday. Chapman returns home for a 5 p.m. match with Caltech on Oct. 8.
