Chapman drops three at Stag-Hen Invitational
CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Chapman University men's tennis team suffered three defeats at this weekend's Stag-Hen Invitational in Claremont. The Panthers have dropped six consecutive matches overall.
Day 1: Pomona-Pitzer 8, Chapman 1
Tournament co-host Pomona-Pitzer was anything but
hospitable, sweeping three doubles matches and taking five of the
six singles rounds. Chapman's lone victory came from senior No. 1
Clifford Yook who won in straight sets over
Cameron Taylor 6-2, 6-0 and improved to 7-3 this
spring.
Day 2: Colorado College 7, Chapman 2
Sophomore Wes Nomi and junior
Leland Buttle teamed up for an 8-6 win in the No.
1 doubles match as the Panthers took two of three in doubles play.
However, without Yook, Chapman was defeated all six singles
matches. Senior Scott Fong battled
through three sets before losing 6-1, 3-6, (10-8) from the No.
6 position.
Day 2: Hope (Mich.) 7, Chapman 2
Nomi and Buttle won again from the No. 2 doubles position,
8-3, and Nomi earned his fifth singles victory of the year with a
straight sets defeat of Hope's Jeff Vredenburg
6-4, 6-0. But it wasn't enough to snap the Panthers' losing streak.
Chapman (3-9) will close out its home schedule with back-to-back matches against Occidental and Cal Lutheran on Friday and Saturday, April 3-4.
