Men defeat Oxy, win first home match of the year

ORANGE, Calif. -  The third time was a charm for the Chapman University men's tennis team, which won for the first time in three home matches this season, defeating visiting Occidental College 8-1 at the Chapman Tennis Courts on Friday afternoon. The Panthers also snapped a six-match losing streak and improved to 4-9 this spring.

Junior Christian Isip rallied back from a disappointing 6-7 tiebreak loss in his second set to win his singles match from the No. 2 position 6-0, 6-7, 6-1. That snapped a personal six-match losing streak. Junior Leland Buttle overcame a first set loss to win the No. 3 singles match 3-6, 6-1, 6-4.

Meanwhile, senior Clifford Yook cruised to a 6-3, 6-0 straight sets win over Occidental's Mike Kuhn in the No. 1 singles match to improve to 8-4 overall. Yook and Isip also partnered to win their No. 1 doubles match 8-2 to help the Panthers sweep all three doubles sets.

Chapman won't have much time to enjoy the victory as it will host Cal Lutheran University on Saturday at 3 p.m. in a rematch of the Kingsmen's 7-2 win in Thousand Oaks in February.
