Losing streak snapped with 6-3 win over PLU
ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's tennis team claimed victory in five of six singles matches to take the overall match 6-3 against visiting Pacific Lutheran University (Wash.) on Tuesday afternoon at the Chapman Tennis Courts. The win snaps the Panthers' six-match losing streak with two regular season matches remaining.
Seeds two through six each earned a win for the Panthers, led by straight sets wins from sophomore Dylan Tevlin (6-2, 6-0) in the No. 2 match. Tevlin won his sixth match of the year, including a 5-7 record as Chapman's No. 2 seed.
Junior Alex Klein also won in straight sets as the Panthers' third seed, 6-4, 6-3 to improve to a team-best 6-4 overall in singles play. Freshman Chris Williams earned the match-clinching win with a 6-2, 6-2 win over PLU's Reed Gunstone from the No. 5 position.
Chapman (3-9) needed the rally after dropping two of three in doubles to the Lutes. Klein and Smyth earned the Panthers' lone win and the duo earned an 8-6 victory in the No. 3 match for their second win of the year.
