Men's tennis wraps up season at Ojai Tournament

OJAI, Calif. – The curtain fell on the Chapman University men's tennis season as three Panthers participated in the 111th Ojai Valley Tennis Tournament on Friday. Freshman Andre Herd advanced to the Round of 32 with his first round victory to highlight the Panthers' showing.

Herd defeated Troy Zuroske of Pacific University (Ore.) in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2 to advance to the second round. However, the tournament ended there for the rookie as he ran into the bracket's No. 3 seed Andrew Giuffrida from Cal Lutheran University, who defeated Herd 6-1, 6-3. Fittingly, they were the same set scores Giuffrida won with in their April 2 meeting in Thousand Oaks. Giuffrida was later eliminated in the semifinals.

Chapman sophomore Dylan Tevlin lost in the first round to Linfield College's Brent Kingzett 2-6, 6-4, 6-2, despite winning the first set. Tevlin and senior Giovanni Villicana also lost in the first round of doubles play, 8-2 to a team from Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges.
