Panthers return to the courts for ITA West Regionals

CLAREMONT, Calif. – Chapman University’s men’s and women’s tennis teams will return to the courts this weekend for their first competition of the new school year. The Panthers’ top women’s players are favored to perform well at the 2010 ITA Division III West Regionals hosted by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges beginning Friday.

Chapman senior Liz Lewis is the two-time defending West Regionals champion and has earned the No. 1 seed in this year’s women’s draw. Senior Kelley Fox has earned the No. 4 seed in the tournament. Fox was studying abroad in 2009 and has not played in the West Regionals since 2008. Both Lewis and Fox reached the NCAA championships tournament last spring and earned All-America honors.

Lewis and Fox have earned the No. 2 seed in the doubles draw behind Pomona-Pitzer duo Jamie Solomon and Kara Wang.

On the men’s side, the Panthers No. 1 player from last spring, sophomore Dylan Tevlin returns. He will be joined by a pair of newcomers Andre Herd and Chris Williams. Sophomore Giovanni Villicana will partner with Tevlin in the doubles tournament, as well.
