Tables turned as men's tennis splits weekend matches

ORANGE, Calif.- Two days after losing to the Redlands Bulldogs by a score of 8-1, the Chapman University men's tennis team defeated Pacific Lutheran by the same tally to push its season record to 4-7. The win over Pacific snapped a five-match losing streak dating back to March 14.

Friday vs. Redlands: Redlands 8, Chapman 1

The duo of Nick Mulflur and Eric Wilson secured the Panthers sole victory in an 8-3 doubles win from the No. 3 position at the Chapman Tennis Courts on Friday. While the Panthers dodged a shutout, the No. 1 seeded duo of Troy Akin and Brett Buford came very close to swinging the momentum with a 9-7 loss to the Bulldogs' Graham Leahy and Patrick Lipscomb.

Redlands dominated singles play, winning all but one match in straight sets. Buford fought hard from the No. 3 position trying to give the Panthers a singles victory, but lost dramatically in three sets, 2-6, 6-3, 13-11.

Sunday vs. Pacific Lutheran: Chapman 8, Pacific Lutheran 1

The tables were turned in Sunday's match at the Chapman Tennis Courts as the Panthers were victorious in all but one matchup against visiting Pacific Lutheran.

Chapman swept three doubles matches with the No. 1 duo of Akin and Buford earning an 8-1 win and the No. 2 duo of Kyle Coates and Chris Williams delivering an 8-0 shutout.

In singles play, Akin, Coates and Buford were joined by Sam Farzani as straight set winners. Akin's win over Pacific's Jason Bower marked his first victory from the No. 1 position
