Consecutive win highlights Chapman's return to the court

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's tennis team returned to action on Thursday, defeating visiting Arizona Christian University 6-3 in a non-conference dual match at the Chapman Tennis Courts. Following a 10-day spring break layoff between matches, the Panthers won their second match in a row marking consecutive victories for the first time this season.

Chapman (5-7) claimed five of the six singles matches to solidify the victory, led by sophomore Kyle Coates and freshman Brett Buford who each won in straight sets from the Nos. 2 and 3 positions. Coates didn't allow a point to Arizona Christian's Ian Glessing, winning 6-0, 6-0 to also win consecutive matches for the first time this year.

Panther freshman Nick Mulflur needed three sets for the win on the No. 4 court, defeating Michael Munguia 6-2, 3-6, 6-2. Sophomore Sam Farzani and junior Chris Williams earned wins from the fifth and sixth positions in straight sets, allowing just one point between the two of them.

Buford, Farzani and Williams are all tied for the team lead with six singles wins this year.

Chapman managed just one win in doubles play to open the match as Mulflur and sophomore Eric Wilson won for the second straight time 8-0. The Panther duo is 6-3 overall this year to lead the team in doubles wins.

Next up for the Chapman men, they host Whittier College in a SCIAC matchup on Friday at 2 p.m. at Anaheim Hills Racquet Club. The Panthers (0-2) are looking for their first conference win of the season.
