Akin becomes first Panther named to All-SCIAC Tennis Team
ORANGE, Calif. – Junior Troy Akin became the first member of the Chapman University men's tennis team to earn All-SCIAC honors in an announcement made by the conference on Monday.
Akin's selection to the second team followed a season in which he finished with a 6-15 singles record. He posted a 2-13 mark from the No. 1 position and a 3-1 mark from the No. 2 slot. The Orinda, Calif. native was one-half of the Panthers' No. 1 duo as he and Brett Buford played 19 matches together, posting a 4-15 record.
The highlight of the season for the junior came in the first round of the Ojai Tournament on April 26. Akin bested Cal Lutheran's Marcelo Sousa in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2 before falling in the round of 32.
The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference was established in 1915. The league is currently comprised of nine private colleges and universities in Southern California: California Institute of Technology, California Lutheran University, Chapman University, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges, University of La Verne, Occidental College, Pomona-Pitzer Colleges, University of Redlands, and Whittier College. The conference recognizes outstanding athletic achievements of its student-athletes on a weekly and annual basis.
