Both tennis teams, 15 individuals earn ITA academic honors

Both Chapman University tennis teams and 15 individuals earned academic recognition from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association for their work over the past school year. It is the second year in a row that both programs have been honored as All-Academic teams.

Senior Brett Buford and junior Charlie Werman ended the 2016 season with All-SCIAC honors, marking the first time two Chapman players have earned the distinction. Buford became the first men’s tennis student-athlete at Chapman to earn first team honors while Werman was selected to the second team.

Men's tennis takes fifth place match from Caltech

A doubles sweep led the sixth-seeded Chapman University men’s tennis team to a 6-3 win over fifth-seeded Caltech in the fifth place match of the SCIAC Tournament on Sunday. The Panthers ended the season on a high note with wins in three of their last four matches.

Men's tennis advances to fifth-place match

The sixth-seeded Chapman University men’s tennis team advanced to the fifth-place match of the SCIAC Tournament with a 5-1 win over Cal Lutheran on Saturday. The Panthers began the tournament on Friday with a 5-0 loss to Redlands.

Men's tennis splits final two home matches

The Chapman University men’s tennis team split its final two home matches of the season, defeating Cal Lutheran 7-2 and falling 9-0 to Redlands. The win over Cal Lutheran came on Senior Day and secured the sixth seed for the Panthers in the SCIAC Tournament.

Senior Brett Buford earned singles wins to lead the Chapman University men’s tennis team at the 116th Annual Ojai Valley Tournament this weekend. Buford reached the round of 16 singles play before being eliminated.

Men's tennis opens 2016 with sweep of Linfield

The 38th-ranked Chapman University men’s tennis team began the 2016 season with a 9-0 sweep of Linfield on Friday. Chapman won all three doubles matches and then did not drop a set in singles to quickly grab the win.

Doubles teams shine at ITA West Regionals

Both tennis teams competed in the ITA West Regional Championships last weekend with Brett Buford and Charlie Werman nearly coming away with a championship. The Panthers highest ranked duo made it all the way to the semifinals of the main draw.
