Hays named SCIAC men's tennis athlete of the week

ORANGE, Calif — Tommy Hays was named the men's tennis athlete of the week on Monday, Apr. 18.

Hays played an integral part in the Panthers' final match of the day against Whittier on Friday. With the team scores notched at 4-4, Hays' match was all that remained, and as the crowd watched the ball travel back and forth across the net, pressure mounted ever so higher.

After convincingly winning the first set 6-1, Hays dropped the second in a close on 6-4. The third set went to Hays and the Panthers 6-3.

With his huge victory, the Panthers entered the win column for the first time in SCIAC, as their conference record now sits at 1-4. They are 4-10 overall. Chapman will return to the courts on Wednesday Apr. 20 at the Ojai Valley Tennis Club.
