Water polo drops SCIAC-opener to Pomona-Pitzer

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's water polo fell 15-9 to the No. 1 ranked team in Division III, Pomona-Pitzer, on Saturday. The match was the SCIAC opener for both teams.

Pomona-Pitzer went up early and held off a second half surge from the Panthers to get the 15-9 win. The Sagehens held a 5-2 advantage in each of the first two quarters to go up 10-4 at halftime.

Chapman put some pressure on the Hens in the, scoring three of the first four goals of the half to cut it to 11-7. However, Pomona-Pitzer responded with a pair of late goals to hold on to their six goal lead. Both teams found the net twice in the fourth.

Owen McNicholas made nine saves and three different Panthers scored twice in the first home match of 2021.

Chapman travels to Cal Lutheran on Wednesday and returns home on Sep. 29 to host Redlands.
