Men's water polo falls to CMS

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's water polo team dropped a SCIAC match to visiting Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 16-9. Freshmen Noah Baird and Everett Prussak, as well as sophomore Spencer Snow, each scored a pair of goals to lead the Panthers.

Chapman went toe-to-toe with CMS through the first 15 minutes. A defensive battle saw the two goalies step in the spotlight for much of the first two quarters. Senior Owen McNicholas made 11 saves in the match with many coming in the first half.

Chapman scored the first goal over four minutes into the match when freshman Nate Randolph found the back of the net. The teams traded goals over the next several minutes but back-to-back goals from Snow gave Chapman a two-goal lead at the midway point of the second quarter.

With 2:48 left in the half, Prussak scored his first goal of the night to make it 5-3. However, CMS countered with a lengthy run. The Stags scored the last three goals of the half to take its first lead at 6-5 just before halftime and continued with three consecutive goals to open the third quarter.

Chapman managed just four goals after halftime with CMS goalie Noah Smith making 14 saves in the match.

Chapman is back in action with a doubleheader on Saturday. The Panthers take on Caltech at 11 a.m. before facing Westcliff at 3 p.m. at Allred Pool.
