Men's water polo powers past Caltech and Westcliff

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's water polo team cruised to a 23-9 win over visiting Caltech on Saturday in the first game of its doubleheader. It was the Panthers' third win in the last four matches.

Freshman Everett Prossak led the Panthers with four goals while senior Danny Meisel made 12 saves in the first half. Junior Max Schoening scored three times while five different Panthers scored twice.

Caltech kept pace over the first quarter as Chapman battled to a 3-2 lead. In the second, Chapman forged ahead of the short-handed Beavers and continued to add to their lead throughout the second half.

Game 2 – W, 19-13

Chapman kept rolling with a win over Westcliff in the afternoon. Junior Andy Colmignoli scored four times and senior Evan Belli added four more as the Panthers outlasted Westcliff 19-13.

Chapman went up 4-1 in the first quarter but saw the lead disappear when the Warriors tied it up at 5-5 with 5:08 in the second quarter. Freshman Nate Randolph scored to put Chapman up 6-5 and spark a 5-0 run through the 4:08 mark in the third quarter that put the Panthers up for good.

Chapman scored 10 goals in the second half and outscored Westcliff 5-2 in the second to key the victory over the Warriors for the second time in a week.

Meisel made 12 more saves in goal while Randolph drew five ejections to lead on the defensive end.

Chapman heads to Occidental on Wednesday for its next game and does not return home until Oct. 27 to take on Cal Lutheran at 4 p.m.
