Anguiano scores four but water polo falls to Whittier

ORANGE, Calif. – Senior Andy Anguiano scored four goals but the Chapman University men's water polo team fell 18-13 to Whittier on Saturday. Chapman dropped its third consecutive match and fell to 8-12 overall and 3-7 in the SCIAC.

The Poets opened the scoring with the first two goals and never lost the lead. Senior Philip McLean scored Chapman's first and only goal of a low-scoring first quarter. Senior Owen McNicholas made 14 saves for the Panthers.

Chapman trailed 3-1 at the first break but came back within one as Anguiano scored on the opening possession of the second quarter to make it 3-2. Whittier responded but Anguiano struck again to make 4-3 with 5:41 left in the quarter. Whittier scored the next three goals to make it 7-3 and went on to a 6-4 advantage in the second quarter.

The Poets continued to match Chapman throughout the second half as the Poets never led by less than three for the rest of the match.

Freshman Nate Randolph scored a pair of goals while MacLean added three assists to his goal. Sophomore Jacob Bullock also had three assists.

Chapman takes on Orange Coast College at 3 p.m. today in an exhibition and returns home next Saturday for an 11 a.m. Senior Day against La Verne.
