Water polo sends off seniors with big win

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's water polo team celebrated its seven seniors with a convincing 25-14 win over visiting La Verne on Saturday. The Panthers celebrated Senior Day before their final home match of the season.

The Panthers left little doubt in the outcome of the contest, scoring the first four goals of the match and never looking back. Chapman led 7-2 after the first quarter and 12-5 after the first half as the Panthers cruised to the victory.

Seniors Brad Wilson and Andy Anguiano led the season-high scoring effort with four goals apiece. Senior Philip MacLean added in a hat trick with three goals and four assists. Senior Mark Mechtovich scored twice, assisted on two more and came away with four steals.

Senior Owen McNicholas started the gam in goal, making 10 saves in the first three quarters before changing his cap and entering the field in the fourth. The senior goalkeeper scored twice while in the field.

The Panthers and Leopards meet again on Wednesday but will shift to La Verne. The season wraps up at Caltech on Saturday.
