Lauwers fans 10, softball splits with Whitworth

ORANGE, Calif. — Softball split Saturday, March 25th's double header against the Whitworth Pirates with a 5-0 game one loss and an 8-3 win in the final game at El Camino Real Park.

Game 1 - L, 5-0

The Panthers were shut down at the plate, collecting just two hits in the loss. Grace Fosselman and Morgan Lastinger were the lone players with one hit apiece.

Jillian Kelly took to the circle, and had a rough first inning, allowing three of her four earned runs. Kelly finished the game pitching five innings, allowing eight hits, while striking out seven.

Izzy Epstein finished out game one with two innings of relief allowing one run, unearned.

Game 2 - W, 8-3

Chapman's bats woke up in the back half of the double header totalling 11 hits including four extra base hits.

After Taylor Corcoran drove in the first run of the game in the second inning, and Whitworth tied it up, the Panthers went on a scoring spree in the third. In three straight at bats, Ilianna Serna started things off, scoring a run via a walk. Then Corcoran drove in one more run on an infield single and finally with the bases loaded, Taylor Cruz drove them all home on a double into the left center gap.

The Panthers would add a couple more runs and take an 8-1 lead in the fifth. 

Simi Lauwers pitched a complete game after earning a win over Occidental yesterday. Lauwers pitched all seven innings allowing three earned runs, striking out 10 Pirates. Lauwers tallied her third career 10+ strikeout game in her career on Saturday.

Chapman, now 12-6 overall after the split, will return to El Camino Real Park on Tuesday to take on Williams at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
