Track & Field breaks five school records at SCIAC #1

CLAREMONT, Calif — Track & Field had a historic showing at the SCIAC #1 meet at Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday, Mar. 4. The men won in dual meets 126-16 over Whittier and 102-49 against La Verne. While the women won 100-51 over Whittier and 122-31 over La Verne.

Mason Fara broke the school record in both the 100 and 200 meter dashes with times of 10.85 in the 100 — beating the next fastest time by .26 seconds — and a 21.75 in the 200. Fara was also a part of the 4x100 relay team that won their race and broke a school record in the process with a time of 42.53. Jordan Walton, Ewan Shen and Sam Thompson joined him.

Azriel Shakur broke the school record in the hammer throw, tossing it 43.02 meters, winning the event. He also won the discus at 44.27 meters — seven meters further than second place.

Six other male Panthers won events in the afternoon, totalling 11 first place finishes. 

As for the women, Jadyn Ayala was the lone record breaker, earning it in the hammer throw. She reached 35.03 meters on her throw, winning the event in the process.

Allison Kremer took first in the 400-meter dash, and helped the 4x400 relay team to a first place finish alongside Kaylee Smith, Kayla Almeida, Proud Kitnitchiva.

The women tallied six first place finishes at the meet.

Chapman returns to action next week to compete at Occidental on Saturday, Mar. 11.
