School records fall over the weekend

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University track & field teams continued to break records through the early weeks of the outdoor season at the Mangrum Invitational and the Team 4 Titus and Ely Invitational. Five more school records were broken between the two meets.

Nick Burton – in his third-ever javelin competition – continued to show improvement and broke Chris Dyckman's school record with a throw of 54.37 meters (178-feet, 4-inches). Burton placed third in a field of 16 athletes from Division II, Division III and community college programs.

Mason Fara also continued to add his name to the record book with a time of 10.87 in the 100m dash final, beating the previous Division III era Chapman record. Fara placed second in the event. With the wind over 2.0 meters per second in the prelim rounds, Fara ran a faster time of 10.83. Burton placed third in the event.

Sean Longley had a PR to place fourth in the shot put and beat his own DIII-era school record. His heave of 13.08 meters (42-feet, 11-inches) bettered his previous record of 13.04 meters.

The women's 4x400m relay continued to impress as it broke under four minutes at the Mangrum Invitational. Allie Kremer, Kaylee Smith, Makenna Lizarde and Proud Kitnitchiva combined for a 3:58.55 – a time that ranks tops in the second and second in Division III. Smith went on to break another record in Saturday's meet as she bettered teammate Zoe Zurasky's school record in the 100m dash.

Smith missed the record by one second in prelims and ran a faster 12.48 in finals to finish sixth and claim the record. Kremer also improved upon her own school record time on Saturday as she sprinted to a time of 25.56 in the 200m dash, beating her previous record time by nearly a third of the second.

Jadyn Ayala continued to write the record book for the women's hammer throw. She established the school record with her first throw and has continually improved upon it. On Friday, her toss of 36.64 meters (120-feet, 2-inches) was more than a meter better than her previous best.

The Panthers head to their second SCIAC Muilt-Dual next Saturday.
