Women's basketball secures first win of season

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman women's basketball team secured their first victory of the 2021-22 season with a 75-55 performance over Linfield University. Senior Brittany McPherson led the scoring effort for the Panthers in her second game of the season.

McPherson shot 8-11 from the field and posted 19 points, five assists, and five steals for the Panthers. Kylee Ishibashi dished out ten points from the bench including a shot from the arc. Orel Shilon shot 5-8 from the field and tallied 11 points towards the Panther scoring effort.

The score was tied 8-8 early in the first with the Panthers only able to pull ahead by 21-18 going into the second. Chapman went on a run in the second pulling ahead 41-29 with seconds left. Juliana Campas secured a shot from beyond the arc that contributed to her five points in the period while McPherson secured three rebounds.

Chapman tallied 26 points in the third with Madison Shigeta posting six of her ten points on the night. The panthers held the Wildcat's down by ten or more for most of the quarter and went into the fourth ahead 67-46. Chapman only secured four field goals in the fourth, their lowest of the game, but held the Wildcats to three setting the finals score at 75-55.

Gillyan Landis led the scoring effort for the Wildcats and shot 9-12 from the field contributing to her 20 points. Maggie Smith made 2-2 shots for Linfield from behind the arc.

The Panthers hit the road next Fri., Nov. 19 to face Wheaton in Redlands at 5 p.m. Chapman returns to Hutton on Dec. 19 to host Wartburg in a 1 p.m. game.
