Women's basketball falls to Wartburg after late rally

ORANGE, Calif. — The Chapman Women's basketball fell 70-60 in a late battle against the 7-1 Wartburg Knights at Hutton Sports Center. Senior forward Julia Strand led the Panthers off the bench posting a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds.

Strand shined defensively as she led the team with three blocks and three steals. Although her double-double just wasn't enough to put the Panther's ahead as Wartburg Junior guard Macy Harris posted a double-double of her own with 16 points and 10 rebounds. She scored half of her points from the free throw line.

The Panther's struggled beyond the arc and shot 1-14 from the three-point line. Senior guard Julianna Campas hit Chapman's only three pointer late in the second quarter making it a six point deficit entering the second half.

The Knights went 11-28 from beyond the arc. Senior guard Hannah Anderson led the Knights in shooting, serving 12 of her points from the three-point line. Harris backed up Anderson with two three-pointers of her own, shooting 2-3 from beyond the arc.

After falling behind by as much as 17 points in the fourth, the Panthers brought it back to a five-point game with 30 seconds left, but the Panther's struggled to find another basket as a few late trips to the free throw line for the Knights brought the lead back to ten points, securing the win for Wartburg.

The Panthers return to Hutton Sports Center on Fri., Dec. 31 at 4 p.m. to face Amherst.
