Women's basketball dominates the Tigers

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman women's basketball team dominated Occidental 72-49 preventing the Tigers from securing a lead through all four quarters of regulation. Julia Strand coined her sixth double-double in seven games serving up 21 points and 16 rebounds.

Brittany McPherson started the momentum for the Panthers and secured a layup just six seconds in, Grace Song first made it a ten-point game with two free throws with 36 seconds remaining in the first quarter. Chapman ran with the game early in the second and set the score 28-12 four minutes in.

A Katie Kubo layup sent the Panthers into the half on top 36-24 and another Kubo free throw ended the third quarter 50-36. Freshman Lauren Morrow served up her first three career points on the night with a layup and a free throw in the fourth.

Neither team hit a shot from three point range on the night but the Panthers were able to capitalize scoring 32 points from the paint and serving up 15 points off of turnovers compared to the Tigers two.  

Kubo combined for 11 points on the night alongside her three assists and two rebounds while Orel Shilon and Kylee Ishibashi both notched eight points off the bench. Toni Thompson led the offensive and defensive effort for the Tigers and tallied 11 points and 15 rebounds.

The Panthers return to Hutton Center on Sat., Jan. 22 to face Caltech in the second game of a men's and women's doubleheader at 4:00 p.m.
