Women's basketball rolls past Caltech

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman women's basketball team defeated the Caltech Beavers 67-93 in the second consecutive game where the Panthers never allowed their opponent to secure a lead.

Julia Strand continued to lead the Panther offense and served up 18 points in 21 minutes played on the night alongside her six rebounds, three assists, and three steals. She went 7-10 from the field.  Classmate Brittany McPherson was next in line and posted 14 points on the night with six rebounds and six assists. Katie Kubo boosted the victory and went 4-5 from the field with one shot from behind the arc totaling nine points. 

The Panthers secured their dominance early and first made it a ten-point game with a Zoe Zurasky free throw with five minutes left in the first quarter. Chapman went into the half up 48-31 with a boost from Julianna Campas who secured nine points in the first. 

A Strand layup set Chapman with a 30-point lead with just seconds left in the third quarter propelling the Panthers into another victory. Colleen Navasartian served up her first career points on the night with the first layup of the fourth quarter.

Sahana Saikumar led the Beavers offensive effort with 15 points on the game followed closely by Kathryn Edwards with 13. Claire Perhach secured eight points off the bench and led the defensive effort with eight rebounds.

The Panthers shot 57.1% from the field and 66.7% from beyond the arc. Zurasky secured a solid eight points off the bench for the Panthers alongside Grace Song and Kylee Ishibashi who both notched in seven off the bench. Julianna Campas went 4-7 in threes while Ishibashi went 2-3.

The Panthers hit the road on Wed., Jan. 26 to take on the Poets for the second time in two weeks at 7:00 p.m. They return home on Sat., Jan. 29 to face UCSC in a 4:00 p.m. game.
