Strand gets second SCIAC weekly award

ORANGE, Calif. – Senior Julia Strand continued to put up big numbers in leading the Chapman University women's basketball team to two big wins last week. She has been selected as the SCIAC Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season.

Strand is on her way to winning both the SCIAC scoring and rebounding titles, averaging over 23 points and nearly 11 rebounds per game this SCIAC season. She scored 29 points to go along with eight assists and six rebounds in Chapman's 85-75 win over Oxy on Wednesday.

In the Panthers huge road win at CMS on Saturday, Strand had her ninth double-double in 14 games played this year with 18 points and 12 boards. She also had three steals and two assists in the 63-47 win that propelled the Panthers into a three-way tie for second place.

With just two games left in the regular season before an expanded SCIAC Postseason Tournament, the Panthers are tied for second with Whittier and Pomona-Pitzer. Chapman finishes off the schedule with a Wednesday night matchup against La Verne at 7 p.m. and a Saturday matchup with Cal Lutheran at 4 p.m.
