Women's lacrosse takes care of short-handed Willamette

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's lacrosse team wrapped up its non-conference schedule with a 19-2 win over short-handed Willamette in a Friday matinee. Fourteen different players scored at least one goal for Chapman, led by three from Jessica Ricketts.

Chapman won its sixth match in a row to head into the bulk of its SCIAC season on a hot streak. Anna Hereu and the Panthers did not allow a goal in the second half after taking a 12-2 lead into halftime.

The Bearcats entered the match with just 10 players and played all 60 minutes 12-on-10. Chapman took advantage of the two-player advantage, limiting Willamette to just 6-for-22 on clear attempts and forcing 27 turnovers. The Panthers outshot the Bearcats 40-6. Shelby Sawyer made 15 saves for Willamette.

Ricketts had three goals and an assist to lead the Panthers offensively. Elise Mayer, Danni Malinski and Vaness Topete also had multiple goals. Emily Allen picked up seven ground balls and caused three turnovers to go along with a goal and assist.

Chapman's March-long homestand comes to a close when the Panthers host Occidental at 7 p.m. on Wednesday in a SCIAC match.
