Women's lacrosse powers past Oxy

ORANGE, Calif. – After taking an quick lead to open the match, the Chapman University women's lacrosse team held off Occidental for a 15-9 SCIAC win. Anna Klose scored three times in her first match back from an injury and Annika Carlson added three more.

The Panthers opened the game on a 5-1 scoring run and never trailed as they picked up their third win of the season. Megan Guerra opened the scoring on the first possession when she found the back of the net just 26 seconds into the match.

Oxy answered but the Panthers scored the next four goals with Sophia Bitis bookending the run with a pair of goals. She also assisted on four more goals in the game. Klose and Carlson added the first goals of their respective hat tricks in the run.

The Tigers came closer than three goals for the rest of the night and the Panthers seemed to always have an answer to prevent the lengthy run back into the game. The defense held Oxy to 18 shots while the Thigers also committed 25 turnovers. Liv Huntley-Robertson caused three of those turnovers to lead the defense and also had four groundballs. Jessica Ricketts picked up nine of Chapman's 16 draw controls while also scoring twice.

Chapman also held the Tigers to 15-of-25 clear attempts and did not allow a goal with a player down as the Panthers served three yellow cards. Anna Hereu made six saves.

With Chapman up 6-2 after the first, the two teams matched each other over the next two quarters to give Chapman an 11-7 lead heading into the fourth. The Panthers pushed the lead back up six with a 4-2 advantage in the final period.

Chapman returns home for a non-conference Monday matinee against Lake Forest at 12:30 p.m.
