Bitis breaks assists record in shutout victory over Cal Lutheran

ORANGE, Calif. – Sophia Bitis highlighted a dominant 23-0 victory for the Chapman University women's lacrosse team with her record-breaking 25th assist of the season. The Panthers rolled to their ninth victory of the season.

Bitis assisted on a pair of goals in the SCIAC win over Cal Lutheran to run her season total to 25 – the most in Chapman history. The record-breaker came early in the third quarter to a cutting Annika Carlson. Carlson led Chapman with four goals in the win.

The result was never in much doubt as the Panthers jumped out to a 10-0 lead after the first quarter and continued to add on. Angelina Dieu made her Chapman debut in goal and posted the second shutout in program history. The Panther defense limited the Regals to just three shots in the match and ended with 14 caused turnovers.

Cal Lutheran committed 26 turnovers to Chapman's 11 and were just 3-of-13 on clear attempts. In total, 13 different Panthers scored at least one goal to contribute to the lopsided win, including the first career goal for Sophie Pelton, with three more assisting on at least one goal.

Jessica Ricketts picked up five more draw controls while Amanda Ogrodowicz and Sophie Licitra each picked four ground balls.

The Panthers head to Occidental on Saturday and will look to clinch a berth and at least the No. 3 seed in the SCIAC Tournament with a win. Chapman's next home match is April 29 against Whittier when the Panthers will celebrate Senior Day before an 11 a.m. opening draw.
