Women's soccer falls to Poets in home opener

ORANGE, Calif. - The Chapman women's soccer team fell to the Whittier Poets 3-1 in the 2021 season home opener. Riley Pidgeon was the lone goal scorer for the Panthers tallying five shots on goal in the game. 

The Poets jumped on the board five minutes in with a Layla Traylor unassisted goal. The Panthers answered in the first when Pidgeon rocketed the free-kick attempt into the bottom right corner of the goal tying the score 1-1 going into the half. 

The Panthers were unable to answer in the second and the Poetes took the game 3-1 after a Sarah Blackmore goal with 36 minutes remaining followed by a successful shot into the top left corner by Elizabeth Roybal 5 minutes later. 

The Panthers led the Poets in possession time 58%-42% and tallied eight total shots on goal. 

The Panthers hit the road to face Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Wed., Sep. 22 at 7 p.m.
