Pidgeon and Bland earn SCIAC Athlete of the Week honors

ORANGE, Calif.- Women's soccer senior Riley Pidgeon and classmate Kelsey Bland earned SCIAC Athlete of the Week honors after securing a 5-0 victory over Caltech on Wednesday and a 2-1 victory over Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday.

Pidgeon scored her first career hat trick in the 5-0 win over the Beavers. She is the first Chapman player to tally three goals in a game since teammate Anna Montemor did in 2019 and is the third player to do so in the last five years of women's soccer.

Pidgeons first goal sent the Panthers into the half with a 2-0 lead, her second came off of a penalty kick and her third was scored in the 89th minute. She also contributed the first goal in a 2-1 victory over the Sagehens. Pidgeon came into the 2021-22 season with five career goals, she has already totaled eight on the season, four of them from her offensive performance last week.

Bland has totaled 34 saves on the season and has played in eight of the 10 matches. She tallied five saves in the 2-1 victory over the Sagehens. Bland holds an overall .850 save percentage and a 0.73 goal-against average.

The Panthers return to Wilson Field this Wed., Oct. 13 to face the Redlands Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m.
