Women's soccer defeats La Verne 3-0

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's soccer team shutout La Verne for a 3-0 win to keep control of its own destiny for a spot in the SCIAC Postseason Tournament. Senior Anna Montemor had a goal and an assist for the Panthers (8-4-2, 6-4-1).

Chapman's win, coupled with losses by Occidental and Redlands, put Chapman aheaad of the pack of four teams vying for the final two spots in the SCIAC Tournament. The Panthers have just one match remaining while CMS, Occidental and Redlands all will play twice next week.

Montemor put the Panthers on the board with a goal just under 10 minutes into the contest. The score stayed the same through the first half before senior Rory Biles spun and fired a shot over the keeper for a 2-0 Chapman lead in the 59th minute. Sophomore Ella LaBrie added a goal less than four minutes later after a shot from Montemor bounced off the crossbar.

The Panthers controlled possession and outshot the Leopards 31-5. McKenzie Maggiore made 12 saves for the Leopards. Senior Kelsey Bland needed to make just two saves for the clean sheet.

Chapman will host Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in the regular season finale on Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. with SCIAC Tournament seeding on the line.
