The field is set for this week's Ojai Tournament

OJAI, Calif. -  Chapman University's men's and women's tennis programs will be well-represented once again when the 109th Annual Ojai Valley Tennis Tournament kicks off on Thursday in Ojai. For the Chapman women, ranked No. 4 in the West Region and No. 25 in Division III, it is expected to serve as a primer for the NCAA postseason. For some Panthers, it may be the tournament to make or break their playoff hopes.

Sophomores Liz Lewis and Kelley Fox have earned the No. 8 seed and a first round bye in the Independent College doubles bracket. The pair is currently ranked No. 3 in the West Region and is hoping to improve on their showing in the 2008 Ojai Tournament, when they were eliminated in the Round of 16.

Lewis and Fox are 17-4 overall and 11-3 this spring. They will face Whittier College's Kady Oliker and Maryrose Vigorita at 2 p.m. on Thursday in the Round of 32.

Meanwhile, senior Clifford Yook may have the most to gain from a strong showing at Ojai. Last season, Yook took a 14-match winning streak into April, but lost his final two matches before the Ojai Tournament. Despite being seeded No. 4 at the event, he could not get past the Round of 16 and as a result, was not selected to the NCAA Division III tournament. This week, Yook enters the men's bracket this weekend ranked No. 6 in the West Region and is 14-8 overall in singles play.

Lewis also earned one of the top-10 seeds on the women's side of the singles competition. Ranked No. 3 in the West Region entering the tournament, Lewis is the No. 9 seed and will face Courtney Ringler from The Master's College. Fox, ranked No. 11 in the West but unseeded at Ojai, will face Katie Oost from Whitman College (Wash.). Both first round matches are slated to begin at 11 a.m.
