Panthers eliminated at Ojai

OJAI, Calif. -  The Panthers' championship hopes in Ojai came to an end on Saturday halting a run that saw Chapman University's No. 1 singles players Liz Lewis and Clifford Yook each reach the quarterfinals in their respective brackets, as well as the Panthers' women's doubles of Lewis and Kelley Fox advancing to the semifinals.

The tournament's No. 8-seeded doubles team, Lewis and Fox lost in the semis to Point Loma Nazarene's Rachel Owens and Kristin Strimple, 4-6, 7-6, 10-4. The loss snapped the duo's 12-match winning streak and dropped the Panthers to 20-5 overall this season. Lewis and Fox will get one final tune-up against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Friday before entering NCAA tournament play.

Lewis also fell in singles play on Saturday morning, losing in straight sets in the women's quarterfinal match to top-seeded Katia Sabate from Fresno Pacific, 6-0, 6-0.

Yook also advanced to the men's quarterfinals with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Linfield College's Mark Magdaong on Saturday, but was defeated in the quarters by U.C. Santa Cruz's Max Liberty-Point, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3. Liberty-Point was the tournament's No. 3 seed.
