Three Panthers selected to tennis championships

ORANGE, Calif. -  Not since the glory days of Chapman University Tennis in the 1980s (known as Chapman College then), have the Panthers been this well-represented at the NCAA national championships. Three Panthers have been selected to participate in the NCAA Division III men's and women's singles and doubles championships upcoming later this month.

Senior Clifford Yook earned the selection for the first time in his career and will play in the singles tournament at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges. The field of 32 players will play from May 19-21 with the draws announced a few days prior. Yook earns his first All-America honors after reaching the quarterfinals at last month's Ojai Tournament and posting an overall record of 16-9 this season.

Sophomore Liz Lewis will make her second career appearance at the women's championships, ranked in the top-25 among Division III singles. Lewis is 22-4 overall this season and becomes the first two-time All-America selection for Chapman in women's tennis since Deborah Denio (1997-98).

Not surprising, Lewis will be joined by sophomore doubles partner Kelley Fox in the doubles championships as the two also rank in the top-25 in Division III. Lewis and Fox are 21-5 overall after reaching the semifinals at Ojai last month. It's the first time Chapman has ever had a women's doubles team selected to the NCAA tournament and a first-time All-America honor for Fox.

Fox and Lewis placed third at the Small Colleges Division III Fall Championships in October.

The women's tournament will take place May 22-24 at Collins Hill Athletic Club in Lawrenceville, Georgia and is co-hosted by Oglethorpe University and Gwinnett Sports Commission.
