Four Panthers heading to Ojai Valley Tennis Tournament

OJAI, Calif. – The field is set for 110th annual Ojai Valley Tennis Tournament and the Chapman University women’s and men’s tennis team is sending four players – two men and two women – to participate in the tournament which runs from April 20-25. 

On the women’s side, juniors Liz Lewis and Kelley Fox return to Ojai for the third consecutive season. The duo currently ranked No. 1 in the West Region has received a first round bye and the No. 4 seed in the Women’s Independent College Doubles Tournament and will face either Concordia University or the University of La Verne on Thursday at 4 p.m. Fox and Lewis who have a 9-4 record together this season reached the round of 16 at Ojai in 2008 and the semifinals in 2009.

As a singles player, Lewis is ranked No. 1 in the West Region with an 11-0 record and has earned the fifth seed into the Women’s Independent College Singles Tournament. She has received a first round bye and will face either Ariana Mokhtari of U.C Santa Cruz or Jordan Kimura of Concordia University on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. Fox is 11-3 in 2010 and will face Lauren Gelgur of Whittier College on Thursday at 9:30 a.m.

Freshman Dylan Tevlin and Christian Isip represent Chapman on the men’s side in both singles and doubles play. The two get underway early Friday morning as Isip faces Ryan Lassila of Cal Lutheran and Tevlin plays Claremont-Mudd-Scripps’ Mac Cahill with both matches beginning at 8 a.m. Later that afternoon at 3 p.m., the duo faces Occidental College in doubles play.
