Women take two of three in return home

ORANGE, Calif. – Poised hopefully for its run at a fourth consecutive NCAA playoff appearance, the No. 13-ranked Chapman University women's tennis team rebounded from a tough showing at the Division III Indoor Nationals and took two of three matches on the Panthers' home court this weekend. Chapman defeated visiting Texas-Tyler on Thursday and U.C. Santa Cruz on Saturday by identical scores of 7-2 before dropping a 7-2 decision to Bowdoin College (Maine.).

Chapman 7, Texas-Tyler 2
The Panthers received a big boost in singles play with three-set come-from-behind victories from two seed Kelley Fox and four seed Genna Ford. Each lost the first set 2-6, but rallied to win the next two to help Chapman capture five of the six singles matches overall. Senior top seed Liz Lewis – ranked No. 3 in all of Division III – won in straight sets 6-0, 6-1 after teaming with Fox for a convincing 8-1 win in doubles play.

Chapman 7, U.C. Santa Cruz 2
After a grueling start to its spring schedule, Chapman won back-to-back matches for the first time thanks, in part, to a doubles sweep by the Panthers. Lewis and Fox won in the top-seeded doubles match 8-3 followed by the freshman tandem of Danielle Kaiden and Kelley Klebenow which won its third straight match 8-1. Each of Chapman's top three seeds were victories in singles play, led by Lewis (6-1, 6-1), Kaiden (3-6, 6-2, 6-1) and Ford (6-3, 2-6, 6-1), who improved to a team-best 10-2 on the season.

Bowdoin 7, Chapman 2
Despite Lewis winning her fourth straight match, the Panthers couldn't continue their team winning streak losing to No. 15-ranked Bowdoin. Lewis' was Chapman's lone win in singles play as she defeated Kellen Alberstone in three sets 7-5, 3-6, 6-1. Lewis and Fox – ranked No. 15 in Division III in doubles – also won for the third straight match and improved to 9-5 this season with a 8-6 win against Alberstone and Emily Lombardi.
